Outbreak in Beijing was caused by vaccination?
booga booga 2009-11-03 12:47:17

Reports on some foreign websites said primary and secondary school students in Beijing were given vaccine shots to prevent A/H1N1 influenza before the People's Republic of China celebrated its 60th founding anniversary on October 1. And those vaccines had led to the recent outbreak in the capital city.

Unknown virus is killing people
booga booga 2009-11-03 13:23:06

In last 24 hours, an unknown virus (presumed pneumonic plague) infected another 37 thousand and killed 12 more people. The authorities deny that this is pneumonic plague, and insist that people die from influenza, pneumonia and ARI.

Meanwhile, an emergency message from the President of Ukraine to the international community to immediately help in the fight against the virus, only reinforces the suspicion that pneumonia and influenza is not the cause.

"The current threat to national security of Ukraine, which we can not offset on our own, requires me to turn to our closest friends and strategic partners for emergency aid", - Yushchenko said in an appeal to the leaders of Belarus, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia Slovakia, USA, and EU Commission President and Secretary General of NATO.

According to the operative data of the Ministry of Health on 1 November, recorded through out the country more than 191 thousand patients with unknown disease of lungs. Of these, 83 thousand are children. Total number deaths recorded - 60, 123 people are dying.

Day before, on October 31, according to Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, 154 200 people fell ill, according to official data, 48 patients died, including two children.

Authorities officially called the disease "swine flu", "California flu", "SARS","pneumonia", but doctors say on the basis of clinical data and the rapidity of the epidemic, that it is pneumonic plague.

Many Ukrainians believe that Ukraine has been infected with pneumonic plague by Russian terrorist organization, the FSB of Russia, using bacteriological weapons to destabilize the situation necessary for the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine.

According to unofficial information, the death rate in Ukraine from the alleged pneumonic plague is higher than officially announced.

According to unofficial data, "in Ukraine over the past week about 1500 people have already died. As noted by some doctors, the reason - pneumonic plague. High temperatures from the first day, a burning sensation in the chest, the desire to drink cold and nausea - all of these symptoms are frightening. People die within few days.

On the other hand, Ukrainian media reported that the virus is rapidly spreading in Ukraine and has already reached Odessa:

"1 woman died in the area of Odessa. Swine influenza has not been confirmed, most likely pneumonic plague was the cause.

Odessa and the region is already infected, most likely, is mutated pneumonic plague ", - said one of the doctors of private clinics in Odessa.

"The panic that spreads through the city, is so great that people are willing to sit at home even on just bread and water. Lack of gauze dressings in the city and surrounding areas - is just the beginning, and there is no elementary necessary ascorbic acid and inhalers.

Meanwhile, the first officially recorded death is because of pneumonic plague, and believe me in reality the are much more, "- says the Odessa physician.

All the doctors throughout Ukraine say that this is pneumonic plague.

"I have met with friends from the western Ukraine, the doctors say that the lungs of the dead were black. And that, perhaps this is not influenza but pneumonic plague. Well, if this is indeed a plague, then the news won't mention it for now, and certainly - it's 100% death (according to the U.S. for 1950-1994 - 41%, but the American health care, of course, not Ukrainian, and American doctors knew that they are dealing with a plague - KC).

With each passing day the picture becomes more and more dire, bloggers wrote and continued:

"The number of deaths is understated. The practice of health care service - to respond to anything after a really big problem. And "big" - far not 60 - as reported to the authorities at the moment.

All the actions talk about a really serious problem that the government is facing. The atmosphere in general - I recalled the early days of the Chernobyl accident - were the same "movement", and secrecy on the part of officials.

The regional center: converted the place to fit 200 beds, tripled the personnel of Precinct Therapeutic Services for special situation of contagious diseases (on materials of live broadcast 'Medchinovnika').

By nosocomial information - all the staff of one of the agencies was transferred to the barracks, in which there was a fatal outcome. (No one was allowed to go home at the end of the working day on Friday). Establishment is located not far away from the major microdistricts.

Traffic police from the western regions does not let transport to go to the east. People are running, it's terrible. Official comments: "information about checkpoints we do not confirm, but do not rule out such a course of action."

One of my friends in these minutes is going to Kiev by train. In our area - quarantine, in Kiev - not yet. The stewards not only wear masks but also disposable gloves - at all times. The clinical picture of what the virus is called Ukraine A H1N1 is same as the picture of pneumonic plague - the speed of hemorrhagic damage of lung tissue, on the absence of prodromal period, on hectic - up to 39-40 degrees - temperature.

- Information from Kiev says that it is not an epidemic of swine flu, but a previously unknown form of pneumonic plague. Doctors have been given the orders not to disclose this information. The figures are understated by tens of times, citizens inform.

Note that this summer in one of Chinese cities pneumonic plague was officially declared, and only 3 deaths reported. The city was quarantined. No further deaths were reported.

- All this is not known not only for the reason that the government forces not to disclose the information, carefully concealing the real situation and closes the zone where the epidemic erupted. The exact number of victims is much higher than shown by the statistics - everyone understands it. How many really died? If you take 152 thousand registered patients and only 52 deaths, even from ordinary flu more than 450 people would have died, according to the annual mortality statistics.

At the moment, in the disaster zone (Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Lutsk) receipts are taken of non-disclosure, doctors are not allowed to record the death with symptoms of pneumonic plague. Deaths are recorded as a result of heart attacks and other things.

The zones of "reanimation" increase. Departure from cordon is blocked. Photo, video filming the scene, contacts with the press - are not permitted under any pretext. Facts are checked, according to ordinary Ukrainians.

From Ternopil message: I am afraid - neighbor from above the floor died. I called my classmate - a doctor - she does not want to speak on this thing, but said that she was also scared. Perhaps we have some sort of mutated virus.

- I'm flying to Odessa this night. In Ukraine there is swine flu or pneumonic plague. They say that already died whether a thousand, or 1500 people, writes Corneliy Glas from Yerevan.

- A call on to mobile. On army channels - "Pneumonic plague. Ternopil region - 26 dead. Barracks rearranged into hospitals", said Eustas a resident of Ukraine.

Idiots
Jolle 2009-11-09 15:48:08

Pneumonic plague is not a virus but a bacterium, has NOTHING to do with the flu, is highly recognizable, perfectly treatable with common antibiotics and not present in Europe any more.

Last outbreak was in China this summer, resulting in... 2 deaths.

Learn your facts before you copy bull shit!
The situation is getting worse and worse
booga booga 2009-11-03 13:30:40

Ukrainian News Agency "Fraza" reported that, according to informed sources, "it has been confirmed 100 % Pneumonic Plague in Ukraine".

The Agency asserts that "the head physician of the medical institutions has sent out an informal disposal - not to sow panic, to refute the information about the plague, and to speak only of swine influenza".

It is also required to distribute masks at health facilities with 8 levels of protection and anti-plague protection costumes. There is also an informal order not to allow any visitors to see the patients.

According to the "Fraza" agency, "today in Ukraine pneumonic plague is going in parallel with swine flu. The plague has killed over 60 people, and about 14 from the flu.

Meanwhile, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported that there is only one death from "California" virus A/N1N1 in Ukraine.

"In Ukraine there are 22 cases recorded of the virus A/N1N1 disease and there is only one fatal consequence as a result. All other cases of death from influenza has only a speculative attitude to "California" virus," press service reports.

The situation with the epidemic of influenza is a complex and unpredictable because of the propensity of influenza A/H1N1 virus to mutation, said First Deputy Minister of Health Mr. Lazoryshynets on Monday, November 2.

"The situation is complicated and unpredictable. We found a strain of this virus in our laboratory ... This virus is dangerous because it can mutate, and we can get a very different kind of virus, which was in Latin America or in Mexico, now it is European ", - said Lazoryshynets at a press conference, the "Correspondent" magazine informs.

At a press conference Lazoryshynets also said that there are 22 officially confirmed cases of influenza A/H1N1 in Ukraine.

First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchinov previously stated that as of Monday morning, November 2, there are 64 registered deaths in Ukraine from flu and acute respiratory viral infections.

Meantime, according to official information the highest level of epidemiological risk is declared in Ivano-Frankivsk (Stanislav) area, from 2 November. This decision was made by Ivano-Frankivsk Regional emergency epidemiological commission at the extended session on November 2.

In accordance with the Commission, quarantine will last for all educational institutions in the area until 20 November, a commission to monitor the distribution of medicines is also made, which come in the region as humanitarian aid.

The commission agreed that health workers will provide individual first aid kit. There will be extra transport allocated to visit patients by the district doctors.
According to the Ministry of Health, today in Ukraine there are 255 000 registered cases of influenza and SARS, of whom 15 000 were hospitalized.

Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine introduced a permanent monitoring of the situation on a clear implementation of the planned anti-epidemic measures in public transport.

A special monitoring group studied the transport department on November 2, how the anti-epidemiological measures were applied at the Kiev railway station, central bus station of the capital and the International airport "Borispol".

Polish epidemiologists November 3 arrive in Ukraine for obtaining specimens from patients with the Ukrainians. The experts will arrive in Lviv, where it is supposed to take 190 samples.

Polish epidemiologists are expected to arrive in Ukraine on November 3 to obtain samples from patients. The experts will arrive in Lviv, where 190 samples are to be taken.

Lithuanian Foreign Ministry on November 2 recommended to the residents of Lithuania to refrain from unnecessary trips to the Ukraine.

One Flu Over the Ukraine's Nest

http://www.thepeoplesvoice.org/TPV3/Voices.php/2009/11/03/one-flu-over -the-ukraine-s-nest

What moves me today? It appears that the massive biological pandemic that I have forecast for many years, most recently specifying this Fall (that's right now, folks), has arrived in the break-away Soviet republic of Ukraine over the past week. You say you haven't heard about it yet? You will. There has been no news coverage in the West so far, so near as I can tell, but this story is too big and moving too fast to cover up much longer. I have seen a number of Internet postings on the Ukrainian epidemic and, even, a few UTube videos already. I have heard the story developing since last week from correspondents of mine in Ukraine who have been witnessing things first hand. School and public offices have all been closed. President Yuschenko has declared a state of emergency and issued a plea for international help. Reports of up to 3,000 deaths (unconfirmed) already are leaking out.

So far, the worst of this outbreak is in Western Ukraine, in and around the city of Lviv, but a few hundred kilometers to the East, in the capital city of Kiev, nearly half the people now stalk the streets wearing surgical masks. It would be an understatement to say that the people of Ukraine are moving into full panic mode. I can see why. So should you. I will explain why in a moment.

Ukrainian authorities are unclear that this outbreak is the same as or, even, a close variant of the Swine Flu now sweeping over the planet. Maybe it is just a lethal mutation. Likely not, however. They are calling it both a viral pneumonia and bacteriological hemorrhagic fever. The symptoms mimic those of Swine Flu, though on steroids. People die with their lungs dissolving almost overnight, filled with fluids and blood. This is the exact, same pattern as followed by the 1917 Spanish Flu, which struck down the healthiest among the population, those with the strongest immune systems. The rampup over the summer has been identical to 1917, too.

Here's why you are at special risk if you are young and healthy: Your vital and responsive immune system is the very thing that kills you, by overreacting to the infection via what is called a Cytokeine Storm. I wrote about this process earlier this year, in Flu Happens. A great many of the people now dying have underlying conditions as well, particularly those of a respiratory nature such as asthma, when they take ill.

Now for the particularly interesting and sinister conspiracy twist (you just knew this was coming, didn't you?):

Incidentally, I have forecast in my Internet columns and my book, Defensive Racism, this very scenario, though I have not known where it would begin.

Three months ago, Israeli Mossad agent Joseph Moshe, who specializes in biological warfare, was taken down by Los Angeles police, allegedly for "threatening the White House." What wasn't reported by the media at the time was that Moshe just had "called into a radio show to warn people about a biological weapon that was being made by Baxter international that would be spread through vaccine and would cause a plague upon its release." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/14/man-suspected-of-making-t_n_2 59330.html Moshe also claimed that Ukraine would be the country in which it first would be released. This was in early August. How did he know?

Three months ago, Moshe stated that this pandemic would begin in Ukraine, a country free of the flu until last week. That is too much for coincidence. Maybe it simply is coincidence, but I do not believe in coincidence. And, suddenly, lots of people are dying in Ukraine from this flu outbreak - a much more deadly form of the flu than has been seen anywhere else.

Baxter Pharmaceuticals has a vaccine development and production lab in Ukraine and in the past has been proven to have shipped dangerous live agents to other countries, notably AIDS in blood products that killed thousands of people a few years ago. This past spring, Czechoslovakia happened to test some Baxter vaccine and found live virus, something about which you may have heard.

Baxter, the source of the flu vaccine now being distributed over there, cannot be trusted! The Ukrainian people are not being told any of this or about what this Moshe character said just prior to being arrested in August over here. I am forwarding this column to all my friends in Ukraine tonight.

There is extreme danger from this flu pandemic in Ukraine right now and you should take especial precautions, wherever you live. Particularly, get a supply of Tamiflu, if possible, and start taking it at the first sign of symptoms (headache, fever, dry cough, aches/pains and extreme fatigue). It works. I have used it myself in the past. This flu operates very fast, often within just 3 - 6 hours, and is very deadly. You will not have time to get Tamiflu once you have symptoms.

I predict that we will see this all over the globe by the end of the month. This could kill a lot of people. A lot, as in millions. Already, you can bank upon this infection being in many other countries, now going through its gestation period. It is infectious before symptoms really manifest. We will know by this time next week.

Hang on, folks. I think this is just the crest. Now comes the plunge downward. Keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times.

Tamiflu Was Known in China 4,600 Years Ago – Part I

by: Junji Takano,
www.pyroenergen.com

In this website, I wrote that there were only 404 kinds of diseases in Japan when I was a high school student. And there were only few kinds of treatment or simple medicines, mostly are Chinese herbs. I found one of them in the old Chinese medical book for influenza the use of botanical herb extracted from pine tree needle leaves which has the same components of Tamiflu (Roche's trademark) or Oseltamivir (scientific name) today.

In fact, this is not the research I've done, but a memory when I was a kid 60 years ago. As a small boy, I can remember that my brothers and I were told to go to nearby forest to gather a female pine needle tree. We made a lot of things out of this pine tree we gathered. Also, I can remember that the pine tree was for epidemic influenza medicine, cigarette, pine-tea, and many others. Yes, these old folks knew something more than we have to realize. Today, we just cannot remember the passed.

During and after the WWII, we used to live in the bottom of lifestyle we know today. During those time there were lack of work, shelter, water, food, and almost everything. We had no medicines at all especially for sick people. We had to create our own medicine from grasses and trees we could find at nearby forest.

I remember that I collected a lot of grasses for our daily foods, too. I can remember that my parents and grandparents told me to gather fresh pine tree leaves especially female pine tree to make cigarette and pine tree tea. I wonder why use pine tree leaf. I made hundreds of cigarette out of pine tree leaves with my brothers and we went out to streets for selling the pine cigarette. I knew now that it was to prevent flu epidemic. I can still remember how pine tree leaves cigarette was made.

(Photos: Female & Mail Pine Trees)

Although, the photos above are Bonzai pine trees, it is just to show you the difference between female and male pine tree. You know that most Christmas trees are from pine trees. From left, shorter leaves with yellowish color is the female pine tree. At middle and the right side photo, longer leaves and sharper torns with greenish color are the male pine trees. According to my parents and grandparents, female pine tree is more effective as medicine.

When I was 17 years old, I left to Hong Kong, Taiwan and in mainland China. I lived there for about 6 years. And there I found cigarettes for asthma patients and cigarettes for children in Chinese drugstores as well as along the street market shifts. It stated that it is for prevention of epidemic flu and cold.

Now, I can realize that these cigarettes were for influenza protection and was known since 4,600 years ago in China.

Tamiflu is especially recognized to protect from Bird Flu Virus. China is the number one exporting country of pine tree leaves to US for the same reason.

(Photos of Tamiflu)

With increasing fears about the potential for a new influenza pandemic, oseltamivir has received substantial media attention. Production capacity is limited, and Japanese and American governments are stockpiling the drug.

When Christmas season is over, what do you do with those Christmas trees (pine tree)?

Don't you know that the needles of pine, spruce and fir trees contain a fairly high concentration of shikimic acid, the main ingredient in Tamiflu. Countries all over the world are stockpiling the drug in anticipation of a bird flu pandemic.

Most shikimic acid is obtained from star anise, a cooking spice from a tree grown in China. Prices of the spice skyrocketed when anxiety over the possibility of a human outbreak of avian flu escalated.

Some companies in US and Canada are now processing thousands of those discarded pine tree (Christmas tree) to retrieve the acid. Acid extracted from needles seem to be used for cancer treatment, too.

For producing this product by several companies are the trade secret and the patent. Here, I am going to teach you a simple way on how to make use of pine tree needle for medical use in Chinese way I've done 60 years ago. Although I did not do any clinical test and analyzing the properties of pine needle when it is used as herb for flu (influenza), asthma, and other related diseases.

1. Clean the needle leaves with running water.
2. Steam it for about 40 minutes.
3. Dry the needle leaves in the shaded and cool place.
4. Once it is dried, you can keep it in the polybag, probably you can preserve it for 3 years.
5. For cigarette, you can wrap the needle as is. Now, you can light it and smoke for flu-prevention purpose. This is the pine needle cigarette I made and sold in the street 60 years ago in Osaka, Japan. Commercialized cigarette I saw in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei were using grinded needle with some other blended herbal leaves.
6. For tea, you can grind or chop it small. Pour hot water and boil it for about 3 minutes.

Now, it is a tasty pine herbal tea for flu-oriented diseases, asthma and others. It is a healthy tea for you. According to old folks in Japan, needle tea is good for prevention of aging.

Try it for yourself.

Pine Needles Inject Hope In Bird Flu Fight

Michel Comte,
The Hong Kong Standard,
Friday, December 30, 2005

A Canadian drugmaker has found a use for 500,000 discarded Christmas trees, announcing plans to extract a key ingredient in avian influenza antiviral drugs from their needles.

Family-owned Biolyse Pharma will begin next month producing shikimic acid, the main ingredient in the manufacture of oseltamivir, commonly known as Tamiflu, from the needles of pine, spruce and fir trees.

"Trees that would have otherwise ended up in the wood chipper after Christmas will be used to make a drug to help protect people from a possible pandemic that could kill millions of people," said company president Brigitte Kiecken, who founded the small firm with her husband, Claude Mercure, in 1980.

The bird flu virus has killed more than 70 people in Asia since 2003. It is spread among animals and from animals to humans. Scientists fear it could mutate into a strain easily spread between humans, causing a pandemic.

Tamiflu, which is made by Swiss pharmaceutical group Roche, is acknowledged as being effective against human infections of the deadly H5N1 virus and is being stockpiled by various countries for use in case of a pandemic.

But supplies of shikimik acid are limited, most now squeezed from star anise, the fruit of a slow-growing evergreen native to China and harvested only two months of the year.

The price per kilogram for the acid has gone from US$45 to more than US$600 in the past year, and supplies have become increasingly difficult to acquire as fear of a pandemic grows, Kiecken said.

In contrast, there is an abundant supply of coniferous species in Canada and elsewhere.

Biolyse is in talks with the National Christmas Tree Association to collect up to 30 million more discarded Christmas trees in the United States, said vice president of product development John Fulton.

"The acid in the needles is what turns the ground yellow or brown beneath the trees in the forest," Kiecken said.

Biolyse plans to sell the ingredient to companies and governments that are not bound by Roche's Tamiflu patents and wish to make generic versions of the drug. The company had applied to Roche to produce Tamiflu but was denied.

Biolyse's first batch will be sold to India-based Cipla and used to manufacturer 100 million doses of the antiviral drug, enough for five million people for two weeks, Fulton said. India has said it might not respect Roche's Tamiflu patent in a public health emergency.

Biolyse recently won a five-year court battle against US pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb over the rights to sell an inexpensive anti-cancer drug made from yew bush needles in Canada. Its Paclitaxel is used to fight the most aggressive forms of ovarian, lung and breast cancer.

Bristol-Myers sells a similar drug under the name Taxol and accused Biolyse of infringing on its Canadian patents. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled six to three in favor of Biolyse mid-2005.

Its plant employs 20 people, plus 100 seasonal harvesters who collect trees to make its anti-cancer drug. AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE

Christmas Trees To Yield Key Tamiflu Ingredient

bio-medicine.org,
(no date).

Biolyse Pharma Corp., a closely held Canadian company that extracts chemicals from plants, plans to use used Christmas trees to extract the chemical for making tamiflu, the drug that treat bird flu.//

The trees contain shikimic acid in their pine, spruce and fir needles, Ontario-based Biolyse said today in a statement. The acid is used in Roche Holding AG's tamiflu and is mainly extracted from star anise trees in China, Biolyse said.

Tamiflu is being perceived as the first line of defence against a possible pandemic outbreak of bird flu, which has been devastating chicken populations across Southeast Asia and parts of Europe.

So far, the H5N1 virus, which usually strikes people in close contact with diseased fowl or their droppings, has infected an estimated 130 people, killing 70. The worry is that H5N1 will undergo a genetic mutation with a human seasonal influenza virus, morphing into a deadly strain that could jump between people like the common cold.

After being rejected as a tamiflu supplier by Swiss drug maker F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., which has a patent for the drug, Biolyse thought of making shikimik acid. The price of shikimik acid has soared to more than $500 (U.S.) a kg from $45 in the past 12 months on shortages of tamiflu and skyrocketing demand, with various countries clamouring to stockpile the drug.

Biolyse specializes in extracting chemicals from plants and biomaterials at its plant in St. Catharines, Ontario. Now makes a generic version of the cancer drug paclitaxel from yew trees.

“Our research has shown that 2-to-3 per cent of the biomass from various pine, spruce and fir trees is extractible shikimic acid,” Biolyse principal Claude Mercure said yesterday.

Once the process becomes commercialized, the company is aiming to eventually produce 1 one to three tons of shikimic acid a month.

To get started, next month it will receive some 500,000 Christmas trees to be donated by Toronto-based Gro-Bark, a forestry recycling company.

Most shikimic acid is now extracted from star anise, the fruit of a slow-growing evergreen in China, which is harvested for several months each year. That's why Roche's production of Tamiflu takes about 12 months and there isn't nearly enough of the drug to go around for government stockpiling.

Biolyse hopes its process will be more viable as the particular species of pine, spruce and fir that it is working with are far more abundant than the seedlings of star anise.

Biolyse has no plans to make Tamiflu unless Ottawa grants compulsory licences under the Patent Act in a national emergency. In such a case, he said the company could produce the drug in five weeks.

In countries where Roche's patents on Tamiflu are not recognized, such as the Philippines and Thailand, Biolyse is in discussions to sell shikimic acid and provide technical assistance to manufacture the drug for use in that country.

Flu and Star Anise; Tamiflu; Spices
Monday morning, July 27, I got hit with flu symptoms, all of them. Tuesday I felt 50% better and today I feel about 80% back to normal.
There is a lot of talk about vaccinations and flu vaccinations. I won't get a flu shot because the flu virion is constantly mutating and the vaccine is merely a guess as to which of the thousands of virions to protect against.
I am concerned with child vaccinations which are now being given to young infants, way too young in my opinion. Why don't they wait until the child is at least 8 or 10 years old ? 50 years ago, smallpox was the only vaccine given. (Later it was found that it also provided immunity against some of the Herpes.) When a kid got chicken pox or measles or mumps, he stayed home and stayed in bed a week or two and his mother babied him and nursed him while his brothers and sisters tiptoed around. He was a star ! Autism was unknown.
Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is made from star anise mixed with talc (lung, skin and ovarian cancer), saccharin (cancers), propylene glycol (anti-freeze), iron oxide (aging), blue, red, and yellow dyes (carcinogens), titanium dioxide, maltodextrins (GMO corn), sorbitol, and on and on.
Tamiflu (oseltamivir) fights the flu because its active principle, shikimic acid inhibits the release of flu virions from the host cell. So far, scientists are actively fermenting GMO's (E. coli) and are making synthetic shikimic acid, but the yield is still too low, so the star anise, a seed from a bush grown in China, is also used.
Shikimic acid is also found in chinchona (quinine) tree bark, all of the sweetgum tree, the gingko biloba tree and from Christmas tree needles by a company called Biolyse Pharma in St. Catharine, Ontario, Canada.
And remember, the bioflavenoid, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory pain-reliever pycnogenol comes from the bark of the French maritime pine tree.
Sunshine prevents flu. So does frequent hand-washing. So maybe I will go outside nude and lie in the full sun for 20 minutes or so right at noon so I can get some of the important vitamin D3 that cannot be put into a pill, it can only be made in the skin when real sunshine hits it.
Why not make your own star anise tea? Knowledge that all the spices are microbicides has been passed down for over 10,000 years by our ancestors. After all, that is why Columbus discovered America in 1492 - looking for spices to preserve food.
I think I will make a tea by steeping star anise seeds and sweetgum tree seeds and some pine needles in freshly boiled water for 15 minutes. Maybe I will add cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg and just drink it all day.
The adult dose of Tamiflu is 75 mg. twice a day for 5 days."

Wild Arkansas: Pine Needle Tea

During the winter of 1536, Jacque Cartier and his men were stranded in a make-shift fort at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River in Canada. All were sick with scurvy and twenty-five had already perished from the illness when Domagaya, a friendly Iroquois man told the explorer about Anneda, a local cure for the disease.

The Cypress or Northern White Cedar tree (Thuja occidentalis) leaf was used as a tea and provided enough vitamin C to knock out the illness.

Though the Cypress is not endemic or native to Arkansas, it does grow here, as do several variety of conifer. The conifers that are dominant in this area of the country are of the Pinus genus.

The Loblolly and Long leaf pine are found more often than their bretheren, the Slash pine and the Pinyon trees.

The difference between the Thuja and Pinus conifers is obvious once you start looking at the morphology, but prior to study, I think one just lumps them all together as pine trees of some sort.

The cypress (Thuja) do not have needles as the Pinus do. The pine needle tea that is predominant on the web is most likely not the pine needle tea that Cartier and his men used.

I made some pine needle tea recently, but wasn’t sure the tea was safe to drink. After washing and brewing the needles clipped from one of the P. taeda (Loblolly) there was a light colored film along the inside of the pan and floating atop the brew.

I skimmed the film off the top, tasted a bit of the clear liquid and felt no ill effects afterward, but didn’t feel secure enough with the brew to drink a full cup. I did have a few tablespoons full and the tea is bland to my taste.

There is so much written about pine needle tea with not much background information available. I didn’t find much anecdotal evidence in which authors actually drank the tea, however, Euell Gibbons experimented with the white pine (P. strobus) extensively and documents the experience in his book, Stalking the Healthful Herbs(1974).

Here’s an excerpt from the book that includes a recipe for Pine Needle Tea.

So though I may not find the pine needle all that palatable, it seems it is safe for consumption and quite healthy.

There is evidence that pine does contain constituents that boosts immunity. In one article written by Marsha Walton for CNN in 2006 shikimic acid, a main ingredient in Tamiflu was found in high concentrations in pine, spruce and fir needles.

If you do want to try the pine needle tea, be sure to collect from trees that have not been sprayed and are not in a high traffic area.

There are many variety of pine available in Arkansas, make sure you have identified your specimen correctly.

The Thuja genus of conifer is contraindicated as containing thujone and may be harmful to some people.

Cautions on Pine Needle Use...
AnoniCanuck 2009-11-03 15:47:02

I've also found these cautionary forum comments on the use of pine needles. I've italocized and bolded alternate comments just to separate them...

After reading this thread, my curiosity got the best of me. I went outside and picked a handful of needles. I tried to chop them but wasn't having much luck;so I just put them in boiling water as is for 15 minutes. Then just put a lid on and took the pan off heat and set aside for awhile.

After removing the needles,I was left with a beautiful red tea. It actually tasted pretty good. I didn't have to add honey or lemon juice.

We are usually homebodies and don't go out much. But if we are ever exposed to the flu, it's great to know a remedy is just out in the yard!

I wonder if there is any medicinal value is cedar trees? We've got a TON of those.

Thanks!
Leat

Seems like it would be good to take both as a preventative AND if you get the flu, since there was a long list of benefits to drinking pine tea, and the article said that Tamiflu (which is prescribed for flu) is made from a property found in the needles.

Just my thoughts.

I just wondered, is it really okay to take the pine needle tea preventative, as they say you shouldn't take Tamiflu preventative. As we are down here in Mexico,I really would like to have something I could give my boys already now to prevent the flue, but I don't want to get the viruses resistant.

WellTellMommy:
Dh, got me some branches and I pulled off the needles of about half off them, can they be dried to keep, made into oil, tincture, can I use the sap from the branches?
Is the sap pine tar, if not what is pine tar?

rainygladness:
I just read something in the current issue of Reminisce Magazine about pine needle tea and thought I'd pass along the info along just as an fyi.

The writer said, "When we were afflicted with a persisitent cough, in the 1940's, my mom went to the forest next to our home in the Black Hills of S. Dakota. There she would gather long pine needles (the short ones were poisonous), wash them clean and put them on to boil in a pot of water. When the "good stuff" was boiled out of the needles, they were removed. Some sugar was then stirred into the syrup that remained. I believe it was the thought of the next does that truly cured your cough."

I thought it was interesting that the short ones were known (or thought) to be poisonous. No other information is given as to which species of pine.

So...don't know if that's helpful or not but there ya go. :D :P

I found this article to be very interresting on pine needle abortion:
http://cekern.ucdavis.edu/Custom_Program813/Pine_Needle_Abortion.htm

And here is a paper that mentions pine needles in a powdered form. :)
http://livepine.com/resources_1.php It's a rather technical article on the biological activities of pine needles.

I also looked up pine oil on Wiki...the oil is the highly concentrated essence of pine, so if there are going to be toxicity problems, it would show up there. Here is what I found:

"Pine oil is a phenolic disinfectant that is mildly antiseptic.[2] Pine oil disinfectants are relatively inexpensive and widely available. They are effective against Brevibacterium ammoniagenes, candida albicans, enterobacteraerogenes, escherichia coli, gram-negative enteric bacteria, household germs, gram-negative household germs such as those causing salmonellosis, herpes simplex types 1 and 2, influenza type A, influenza virus type A/Brazil, influenza virus type A2/Japan, intestinal bacteria, klebsiella pneumoniae, odor-causing bacteria, mold, mildew, pseudomonas aeruginosa, salmonella choleraesuis, salmonella typhi, salmonella typhosa, serratia marcescens, shigella sonnei, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus faecalis, streptococcus pyogenes, trichophyton mentagrophytes.[3]

It will kill the causative agents of typhoid, gastroenteritis (some agents), rabies, enteric fever, cholera, several forms of meningitis, whooping cough, gonorrhea and several types of dysentery.[4] It is also effective against several of the leading causes of food poisoning.[citation needed] It is not effective against spore related illneses such as tetanus or anthrax or against non-enveloped viruses such as poliovirus, rhinovirus, hepatitis B or hepatitis C.[4]

Pine oil has a relatively low human toxicity level, a low corrosion level and limited persistence; however, it irritates the skin and mucous membranes and has been known to cause breathing problems.[2] Large doses may cause central nervous system depression.[1]"

6-Page Pine Tea Thread Link
AnoniCanuck 2009-11-03 15:58:24

Here's the link for the beginning of that very informative six-page forum thread on the use of pine needles:

http://www.welltellme.com/discuss/index.php/topic,23923.0/wap2.html

I've added all of this information because there may be people reading this who can't afford, or who do not have access to, anti-viral flu drugs. PLEASE TO THIS AS AN INFORMATION STARTING POINT ONLY. Do your own research widely on the web and, if possible, consult a medical professional before acting on anything you read on this.

And you may then also just want to tuck it into your back pocket as a possible remedy for a future emergency, if all else fails...

Pregnant Women: NO PINE TEA!
AnoniCanuck 2009-11-03 16:06:37

Finally, here's an important warning from the first page of that thread...

WARNING:

PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD NOT consume this pine needle tea! Do not consume if you think you may be pregnant. It has been known to cause the death of an unborn child within 24 hours! This also happens in pregnant cows that have eaten pine needles. They will drop a dead calf within a couple hours or days after consuming pine needles.

Elderberry Trumps Tamiflu for Flu Remedy

Elderberry Trumps Tamiflu for Flu Remedy
http://www.naturalnews.com/026354_elderberry_Tamiflu_immune_system.htm l

Black Elderberry Extract Benefits

A clinical trial during a severe flu outbreak around 1992-93 in Israel confirmed a perfect cure rate of severe flu victims there. Another study performed in Oslo, Norway more recently, around 2002, also confirmed the amazing efficacy for type A or B flu victims of several different strains. The cures mostly occurred in two days while a few were cured in three days. Tamiflu cures occur normally in 4.5 to 5 days. It took 6 days or more for the flu victims on placebos to recover.

What was used in both Israel and Norway was a Black Elderberry extract product of Israeli origin. There were no side effects from taking this inexpensive flu cure. At the end of this article there is a simple Black Elderberry extract remedy recipe. In other words, you will be empowered with making an abundant supply of this extract cure to have on hand.

Elderberry has a very high ORAC, or oxygen radical absorption capacity: over twice as much as blueberry. In addition, antioxidants called flavonoids stimulate the immune system. Other compounds in elderberry, called anthocyanins, have an anti-inflammatory effect; which would explain the effect on aches, pains, and fever.

Tamiflu and abnormal behavior
Tami Who 2009-11-03 19:07:36

http://www.npojip.org/english/no10.html

The figure shows that symptoms such as "being terrified/fear", "anger", and "sudden scream" started appearing more frequently in treated cases in the morning on the first day of fever. In the afternoon, ratios of all symptoms increased. It means that they were observed more in treated cases. From the evening till the morning on the second day, the ratio decreased. In the afternoon on the second day, the ratio slightly increased, but the ratios for most symptoms went to 1. It means that the symptoms almost disappeared from the evening on the second day till the third day.

In the afternoon on the first day, patients treated with Tamiflu experienced more abnormal behaviors: about 4 to 5 times more "anger", about 4 to 7 times more "sudden scream" and "abnormal behavior based on information from doctors", about 5 to 6 times more "fear", and about 12 to 31 times more "hallucination". This analysis clearly suggests that the onset of neuropsychiatric adverse reactions concentrates on the afternoon on the first day. This tendency, as explained later on, surely coincides with U.S. Food and Drug Agency's (FDA) analysis based on cases reported from Japan.

Tamiflu and Suicide

Tamiflu Causes Suicide

http://tamifluagainstflu.com/pak-alert-press/

In 2004 a 17-year-old boy in the Japanese town of Gero suddenly ran out of his home and into the middle of a busy street, where he was struck and killed by a truck. In 2005 a 14-year-old boy Chiryu got out of bed, climbed the wall outside his parent’s ninth-floor apartment and dropped from the edge. And last month, in two separate incidents, a 14-year old male and a 14-year old female fell to their deaths from their respective high-rise apartment buildings. No one left a suicide note.

What they have in common is that each victim took the influenza antiviral Tamiflu shortly before they died. According to the Japanese Health Ministry, 54 people have died after taking Tamiflu — the drug governments around the world have stockpiled for use against avian flu — since the drug was approved for use in Japan in 2000. Most suspiciously, in multiple cases people, including those cases above, acted erratically after taking Tamiflu. Though the Health Ministry has said there is no clear evidence linking Tamiflu to the deaths, there is growing concern among doctors and parents in Japan over the drug’s possible side effects. That is potential cause for concern in the rest of the world, because in the absence of a vaccine, Tamiflu will be the drug of first and last resort in the event of a pandemic.
